Elo I-Series 5 troubleshooting: power, touch, network, USB
Power light meanings and step-by-step fixes for the Elo I-Series 5 for Android: no power, dark screen, boot loop, touch, network, USB peripherals and reset.
In this guide
Most I-Series 5 problems come down to power, PoE, a peripheral or a setting. Check the power light first, then find your symptom in the table.

Elo's manual lists four states for the power light: off (no power), solid white (on), flashing white (idle) and solid orange (switched off).
Fixes
1. No powerNo light, the unit doesn't start
CauseThe power brick, cable or socket, or the PoE supply, isn't delivering power.
Fix
- Check that the power cable sits firmly in the wall socket, in the brick and in DC in under the cable cover.
- Unplug the power, wait at least 5 seconds and plug it in again. The unit starts when it gets power; if not, press the power button for about half a second.
- Try another socket, and use Elo's original power brick.
- On PoE: check the PoE module and that the switch port supplies PoE. Elo recommends IEEE 802.3bt (60 W or more). Never connect PoE and the power brick at the same time.
2. Screen dark, light flashingPower light flashes white
CauseThe unit is idle or asleep, which is normal.
Fix
- Press the power button once, or touch the screen.
- If touch doesn't wake it, check that the touch screen is ticked under Settings › Wakeup Source.
3. Screen dark, light solid whiteUnit is on but nothing shows
CauseElo says this points to the display or its backlight.
Fix
- Force a shutdown by holding the power button for 12 seconds, then start the unit again.
- If the screen stays dark, contact us with the serial number. It is likely a hardware fault.
4. Stuck on the logo or boot loopNever reaches the home screen
CauseAn interrupted update, a weak power supply, a faulty USB device or SD card, or hardware.
Fix
- Check the power cable and use the original Elo power brick.
- Unplug every USB and Edge Connect device and remove the microSD card. Restart. If the unit now starts, reconnect the devices one at a time to find the faulty one.
- Disconnect the power completely for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect it.
- If it still doesn't start, a reset may be needed: see Fix 8.
5. Touch problemsNo response, wrong spot or ghost touches
CauseLiquid or dirt on the glass, a setting, or an app that has stopped responding.
Fix
- Switch off and clean the glass with a damp, well wrung-out cloth. Don't spray liquid onto the unit; avoid alcohol above 70 %, undiluted bleach and ammonia.
- Elo asks you not to touch the screen while the unit starts up. Restart it and keep your hands off the glass until the home screen appears.
- If touch works in Settings but not in your app, restart the app or the unit.
- Behind a protective glass or plastic panel, turn on touch-through mode in the Display settings. Elo specifies it for 2 touches through up to 6 mm glass or 3 mm plastic.
6. No networkWi-Fi or Ethernet doesn't connect
CauseWrong Wi-Fi settings, a loose cable, or Wi-Fi turned off by the PoE power manager.
Fix
- Wi-Fi: in Settings › Network & internet › Internet, check that WLAN is on, then forget the network and reconnect.
- 5 GHz network missing: it may use DFS channels. Elo describes a DFS option under the advanced Wi-Fi preferences.
- Ethernet: the unit prefers Ethernet automatically. If it doesn't switch, turn off Use Wi-Fi and switch on Ethernet. Try another cable and switch port.
- On 802.3at PoE, Wi-Fi is off by default. Use Ethernet, or switch Wi-Fi on in Settings › Connected devices › Connection preferences › PoE power manager.
7. USB or Edge Connect device not workingPrinter, scanner or reader not detected
CausePort turned off on PoE, not enough power, or a cable or app setting.
Fix
- On 802.3at PoE, the USB-A, USB-C and Edge Connect ports are off. Enable them in the PoE power manager, or use an 802.3bt switch or the power brick.
- Three Edge Connect ports supply up to 500 mA and one up to 1.2 A; the USB 3.0 port supplies 900 mA. Use a powered USB hub for devices that need more.
- Unplug the device, restart the unit, plug it in again and try another cable.
- A scanner in keyboard mode types into any text field: test it in a notes app first.
- Printers are set up in your POS app; in Loyverse POS, as Other model with the USB interface. See Epson printers with Loyverse or TM-m30III troubleshooting.
8. Factory resetLast resort when nothing else works
CauseCorrupted settings or software that a restart doesn't fix.
A factory reset erases all data and apps. Back up your POS data first. If a Google account was added and you reset outside Settings (from the bootloader or recovery menu), you need that account's login to use the device again.
Fix
- Open Settings › System › Advanced › Reset options.
- Tap Erase all data (factory reset), then Erase all data, and confirm with Erase all data.
- The unit restarts by itself. Run first setup again as in the I-Series 5 setup guide.
If the unit doesn't start far enough to open Settings, Elo describes a recovery-mode reset for its Android devices: unplug the power, hold the HOME button while you reconnect it, and keep holding until Android System Recovery appears. Press HOME to highlight wipe data/factory reset and the power button to select it, then highlight YES - delete all user data and press the power button. When the wipe is done, press the power button on reboot system now. The I-Series 5 manual doesn't describe this procedure. If recovery mode doesn't appear or the reset doesn't help, contact us.
