The Zebra DS8178-HC is the cordless Bluetooth® model of Zebra's premium DS8100 Series for Healthcare. Its industry-first disinfectant-ready Healthcare White housing withstands wipe-downs with the harshest hospital disinfectants and has concealed screw holes and seams where bacteria could hide, its megapixel sensor with PRZM Intelligent Imaging instantly captures dense, tiny, curved, damaged and on-screen barcodes, and its NICU-safe green LED aimer, Night Mode with Vibrate and built-in lamp help keep patients undisturbed. Class 1 Bluetooth gives caregivers up to 100 m of freedom from the cradle, the scanner is MFi-certified for iPhone and iPad, the power source can be swapped between a PowerPrecision+ battery and a PowerCap capacitor, and the scanner is backed by a 3-year (36-month) Zebra warranty. This version, DS8178-HCBU210SP5W, is powered by the PowerCap capacitor instead of a battery and is the presentation cradle USB kit: it is supplied with the CR8178-PC presentation cradle in Healthcare White (Bluetooth charging and communication base for hands-free scanning) and a USB cable – everything you need to start scanning cordlessly at your PC or workstation-on-wheels.

• Reads virtually every barcode in any condition – 1D and 2D codes on patient wristbands, medication, IV bags, syringes and specimens, including dense, tiny, curved, shiny, crinkled, faded, dirty or damaged barcodes and electronic barcodes on dimly lit phone and tablet screens.
• Megapixel sensor with PRZM Intelligent Imaging – an 800 MHz processor, a 1280 × 960 sensor and Zebra's exclusive PRZM algorithms deliver instant decoding, a wide 48° × 37° field of view and a resolution down to 3 mil (Code 39 and Code 128).
• NICU-safe green LED aimer – a highly visible, eye-friendly green LED aiming dot instead of a laser, so the scanner can be used throughout the hospital, including the neonatal intensive care unit.

• Cordless Bluetooth® freedom – Bluetooth 4.0 with BLE and Class 1 range of up to 100 m from the cradle; Scan-to-Connect pairs the scanner directly with Bluetooth PCs, tablets and smartphones, MFi certification allows use with iPhone and iPad, and Zebra's Wi-Fi friendly mode keeps the scanner off the channels used by your hospital WLAN.
• Swappable power – battery or PowerCap – choose the 2,500 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery (up to 65,000 scans per charge – more than three days of around-the-clock scanning) or the PowerCap capacitor (2,000 scans per charge, 100 scans after just 35 seconds in the cradle). Both can be swapped on site at any time, both report their model and serial number, and a dedicated Power Charge Gauge shows the charge level at a glance.
• Compact USB-powered cradles – the minimal footprint of the presentation cradle fits the most crowded workstations-on-wheels and lets nurses switch between hands-free and handheld scanning, while the desk/wall cradle can be mounted on a wall, mechanical arm or mobile workstation – ideal when there is a computer in every room. Both use Zebra's Connect+ contact technology for reliable, corrosion-free charging over the life of the scanner.
• UDI Scan+ – scan the barcode on medical device packaging and the Unique Device Identification (UDI) data is automatically parsed, formatted and sent in the right order to the right fields of your EHR or other application – no manual data entry.
• Preferred Symbol and Multi-Code Data Formatting – on items with several barcodes, output only the barcode you need, or capture several barcodes with one trigger pull and send them in the order your application expects.
• Easy to deploy – the cradles use the same auto-host-detect Zebra cables as the DS8108, DS4608, DS2208 and LS2208 (USB, RS232, keyboard wedge, IBM 46XX). Supports more than 90 international keyboards and is FIPS 140-2 certified.
• Built to last – withstands multiple 1.8 m drops to concrete and 2,000 tumbles, IP52 sealing protects against dust and spills, and the scanner and cradle carry a 36-month Zebra warranty. The PowerPrecision+ battery reports its charge cycles and state of health, so aging batteries can be replaced before they fail.
