The Zebra RFD40-M Premium Plus is the extended-range version of Zebra's RFD40 UHF RFID sled. It snaps onto a Zebra mobile computer (or pairs with a smartphone) and turns it into a powerful RAIN RFID reader: a linear polarized antenna with a maximum read range of up to 24 metres, more than 1,300 tag reads per second and an ultra-accurate item-finder mode – ideal for high shelves, warehouse racking and large back-of-store areas. It connects via Zebra eConnex™ or Bluetooth 5.3, adds Wi-Fi 6 for over-the-air management, scans barcodes with its own SE4100 1D/2D imager and runs on its own quick-release 7000 mAh battery. This version, RFD4051-G10B700-WR, works in the 902–928 MHz UHF band (900 MHz worldwide version – not the EU model).

eConnex adapters (direct electrical connection):

Bluetooth adapters (wireless connection):

📡 Frequency band: this -WR version is Zebra's 900 MHz worldwide model (902–928 MHz). It is not the EU model – for use in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, Czechia and other EU countries, please choose the EU version RFD4051-G10B700-E8 (865–868 MHz).

💡 Charging: the sled charges together with the mobile computer in an RFD40 ShareCradle that matches your device – e.g. CR40-1S0T-TC2-G-02 cradle for TC22/TC27 or CRD1S0T-RFD40-TC2X-CHG-1R cradle for TC21/TC26 (the cradle power supply PWR-BGA12V50W0WW, DC cord CBL-DC-388A1-01 and mains cord 50-16000-220R are ordered separately). Alternatively, charge it or connect it to a PC with the snap-on USB cable cup CBL-RFD49-USB1-01 or a USB-C cable and the USB power supply PWR-WUA5V12W0EU. A spare battery BTRY-RFD49-70MA1-01 keeps it running across shifts.

Key Features

  • Extended read range – the linear polarized antenna reaches tags up to 24 m (80 ft) away, so you can count high shelves, racking and large stockrooms without climbing or walking every aisle.
  • Fast RAIN RFID reading – more than 1,300 tag reads per second (up to 30% faster than the next leading competitor, according to Zebra) plus an ultra-accurate item-finder mode for locating individual items.
  • Integrated SE4100 1D/2D imager – scan barcodes with the sled itself (1280 × 960 pixel sensor, 44.5° × 33.5° field of view, green LED aimer), including damaged, low-contrast and on-screen codes.
  • eConnex, Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 – snap-and-go eConnex connection to Zebra mobile computers, Bluetooth (NFC tap-to-pair; SPP, HID and Apple iAP2/MFi profiles) for devices without eConnex and third-party Android or iOS smartphones, and Wi-Fi 6 for over-the-air device management.
  • Tri-function trigger – one trigger for RFID reading, barcode scanning and a programmable third function such as the Enter key or push-to-talk.
  • Long-lasting power – the quick-release PowerPrecision+ 7000 mAh battery can be changed without removing the mobile computer; an optional battery locking foot keeps it in place.
  • Batch mode – no live connection to your back-end system? Store up to 40,000 tags in the sled and sync them to the host later.
  • Flexible charging – RFD40 ShareCradles charge the sled, the mobile computer or both together; the USB-C port or snap-on cable cup also lets it work as a tethered RFID reader on a Windows PC.
  • Built for daily use – multiple 1.5 m drops to concrete, 500 tumble cycles, IP54 sealing against dust and water, and an operating range of −10 °C to 50 °C.
  • Easy integration – Zebra RFID SDKs are based on the existing Zebra RFID handheld SDKs (only a recompile is needed); 123RFID Desktop connects via USB, cable cup or Bluetooth for configuration and firmware updates; Gen2X is supported.

Ideal Applications

  • Retail – cycle counting, item finding, planogram compliance, returns and click-and-collect (BOPIS)
  • Warehouse and back-of-store inventory management, direct store delivery and route accounting
  • Healthcare – specimen and patient tracking, hospital asset management and pharmacy management
  • Hospitality and events – check-in, ticketing and loyalty cards
  • Food safety and traceability, field service and asset tracking

RFD40-M or RFD40? Choose the RFD40-M when you need maximum reach – high shelves, warehouse racking and large stockrooms; for everyday cycle counting at closer range, the more compact RFD40 Premium Plus is the alternative. In Europe, choose the -E8 version (865–868 MHz), and remember to add the adapter for your mobile computer and a charging solution. Looking for an all-in-one device instead?
